A youthful Swansea City Under-18s side fell to a 3-1 defeat against an experienced Wigan Athletic outfit at Landore.

With several players away on international duty, the Swans fielded a team featuring four Under-16s in the starting line-up and three more on the bench, giving valuable opportunities to the club’s younger Academy players.

Wigan took the lead on 28 minutes through Daniel Gelhardt, before doubling their advantage eight minutes later as Charlie Hughes converted from close range.

Just before the break, Harvey Gray pounced to pull one back for the hosts, giving Swansea hope heading into the second half.

The young Swans pushed hard for an equaliser after the restart, but were caught late on as Erdis Reci struck in the 85th minute to secure victory for the visitors.

Despite the result, it was a valuable learning experience for Swansea’s youngsters, who showed plenty of determination against tough opposition.
